Description
The ViPrimePLUS Mycoplasma haemofelis qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Mycoplasma haemofelis genome in conjunctiva and blood samples.
Mycoplasmas are Gram negative microorganisms that have been isolated from many animal species. M. haemofelis, previously known as Haemobartonella felis, can cause massive bacteremia of red blood cells that eventually leads to severe haemolytic anemia in cats. The pathogen is transmitted vertical from mother to offsprings and horizontally via fleas and ticks bites. The infection results in several diseases in cats, i.e. feline conjunctivitis, lower respiratory tract infections, feline infectious peritonitis and feline infectious anaemia (FIA). Recovered cats may remain a life-long carrier and infection can re-emerged through stress.
