Description
The ViPrimePLUS Chlamydophila felis qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Chlamydophila felis genome in organ tissues such as nasal and ocular swab samples.
Chlamydophila felis is a Gram negative bacterium, which causes ocular disease in domestic cats. It infects the conjunctiva and is considered one of the major causes of conjunctivitis in cats. There are evidences of human infection which causes keratoconjunctivitis, however the risk of zoonosis outbreak is low. Being an obligated intracellular pathogen, it cannot survive outside of host and is transmitted via contact with ocular secretions. Clinical signs include watery discharge from eyes, red and swollen conjunctiva, fever, lethargy, weight loss and inappetence. Pneumonia can occur in infected kittens. Young kittens aged less than a year are more prone to infection. Treatment is usually with tetracycline and doxycycline. Vaccination should be considered for cats at risk of exposure to infection.
