Description
The ViPrimePLUS Canine Distemper Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Canine Distemper Virus genome in blood, cerebrospinal fluids, pharyngeal swab, conjunctival swab and faecal samples.
Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) is a single-stranded RNA virus that infects dogs and wild animals such as wolves, foxes, raccoons and recently has been reported in the population of endangered Amur tigers, too. The virus is highly contagious and spreads via inhalation of contaminated bodily secretions and excretions. The infection resulted in various clinical symptoms including vomit, diarrhoea, fever, vision impairment and respiratory syndromes. Subsequently, the virus attacks the nervous system causing seizures, tremors and weakened limbs. Mortality rate can reach up to 50% and vaccines are not available against this virus. Early definitive diagnosis of the disease is essential to help owners and clinicians make decisions about continuing therapy versus euthanasia.
