Description
The ViPrimePLUS Acinetobacter baumannii qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Acinetobacter baumannii genomes in clinical samples (e.g. blood and respiratory) and environmental samples such as water and hospital equipment.
Acinetobacter baumannii is a Gram negative bacterium, which can be found ubiquitously in the soil and water. It colonizes the skin and respiratory tract of some people. In 2007, it is recognized as an important nosocomial pathogen, alongside with MRSA and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, due to its ability to proliferate even in dry condition, thus prolonging its survival in clinical settings. Respiratory tract infections, particularly pneumonia, in patients are the common diseases caused by the pathogen. Bloodstream infection due to wounds and injection with contaminated syringe may lead to septicemia and meningitis. Urinary tract infections too can occur but in less frequently. The emergence of the multidrug resistant A. baumannii strains against all known antibiotics has called for an urgent need of stronger new drugs as treatment.
