Description
The ViPrimePLUS Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans genomes in clinical samples (e.g. subgingival, supragingival, saliva and dental plaque).
Periodontitis is the chronic degeneration of the connective tissue in the gums and alveolar bones that supports the teeth. It is the cause of dental loss after the age of 45 in many humans. It develops from the pre-existing gingivitis, the inflammation of the gum due to the long settlement of dental plagues. The pathogenic activity of the facultative anaerobes in the plague contributes to the development of the periodontal disease. A. actinomycetemcomitans is the most important periodontopathogen found in the microbiota biofilm. It releases leukotoxin which destroys neutrophils, monocytes and T-lymphocytes, therefore rendering a weakened immune system in the supragingival area. This eventually leads to the development of aggressive periodontitis. There are evidences showing the systemic side effects of periodontitis such as the increased risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
