Description
The ViPrimePLUS Chlamydia trachomatis qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Chlamydia trachomatis genomes in clinical samples (e.g. urogenital fluids and swabs).
Chlamydia trachomatis is a Gram negative, rod-shaped bacterium, which is recognized as the top sexually transmitted disease pathogen. Transmission is via sexual intercourse and during birth when passed from the infected mothers to the babies. Newborns contracted with chlamydia eye infection may develop pneumonia subsequently. Men are usually the asymptomatic carriers although some may develop urethritis, while women suffer more severe complications such as pelvic inflammation disease, ectopic pregnancy and infertility. Contaminated hands with genital fluids may spread the infection to the eyes, resulting in conjunctivitis or trachoma. Trachoma is the most common infectious cause of blindness, causing a major public health concern. Thus, early detection is necessary as disease prevention measure.
