Description
The ViPrimePLUS Adenovirus Type B qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Adenovirus Type B genomes in clinical samples (e.g. respiratory fluids, eye swabs, blood and serum).
Adenovirus is a double-stranded DNA virus which mainly causes respiratory tract infections. Although most of the infection in healthy individuals are asymptomatic, infants and people with weakened immune system has higher risk of developing complications involving multiple organ systems. There are 6 types of human adenoviruses known, where each causing different diseases. Adenovirus B and C are mainly responsible for the respiratory disease while the infections with type B and D cause conjunctivitis. Transmission of the infection is mainly via fecal-oral route. Adenovirus F serotypes 40 and 41 are the main causative agents for adenoviral gastroenteritis. Adenovirus is also known to be oncogenic in rodents but has not been proven in human. The virus has unusually high stability and survival ability in adverse conditions, and cytolytic pathogenicity made it one of the most concerned pathogens in the community among children.
