Description
The ViPrimePLUS Merkel Cell Polyomavirus qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Merkel Cell Polyomavirus genome in clinical samples (e.g. tissue organs).
Merkel Cell Polyomavirus (MCPyV) is a non-enveloped virus that cause a rare and highly aggressive form of skin cancer called Merkel Cell Carcinoma (MCC). It is one of only seven known human tumour viruses. This virus targets the merkel cells, which are found beneath vertebrates’ skin and are responsible for touch and pressure sensation. MCC is seen mainly in elderly as well as immunocompromised patients and appears on the face, head or neck as painless, shiny nodules that are red, blue or purple in colour, migrating rapidly throughout the body.
