Description
The ViPrimePLUS Grass Carp Reovirus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Grass Carp Reovirus genome in fish samples (e.g. liver and spleen).
Haemorrhagic Grass Carp Reovirus (GCRV), a double stranded RNA virus, is a member of the Aquareovirus genus. Most of the aquareoviruses’ infections are self-limiting with low pathogenicity with the exception of the isolates from 7 fish species which are associated with epizootic fish deaths. GCRV is the most notable species that causes fatal disease, affecting about 85% of grass crap fingerling and yearling populations. After its first discovery from a fish farm in Hubei, China in 1992, there are 10 additional isolates being reported now. It infects grass carp, black carp, topmouth gudgeon and rareminnow, causing exophthalmia, haemorrhage at base of fins, gill covers, mouth cavity and internal organs, enteritis and necrosis of liver cells. Bighead carp, silver carp, golden carp and common carp are the asymptomatic carriers of the virus. The transmission is either water-borne or skin-skin contact. High mortality is reported in the water temperature of 25-28oC. A sensitive diagnosis method is essential for virus dissemination control since no effective vaccines are available currently.
