Description
The ViPrimePLUS Foot & Mouth Disease Virus RT-qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Foot & Mouth Disease Virus genome in blood, vesicles and body fluid samples.
Foot and Mouth Disease is a contagious disease that on rare occasions infects humans but it is mostly prevalsent among cloven-hooved livestock. The responsible pathogen, FMDV is a non-enveloped, single stranded RNA virus that is subdivided into 7 serotypes. Outbreaks from a particular serotype are usually regional in nature; with the exception of serotype O, which is the most common type of FMDV virus. Transmissions could be via airborne, skin or sexual contact, and ingestion of contaminated feed as the virus is present in all secretions and excretions of infected animals. Symptoms of the disease include fever and the presence of vesicles (blisters) on the feet, in and around the mouth and on the mammary gland. Infection could persist from 4 months to 4 years depending on the host. The result of reduced milk production, mastitis, abortion and weight losses in infected ***** herds and the high mortality rate among the infected young animals are a major economical concern. Therefore, a convenient yet reliable screening routine is a good measure in disease management.
