Description
The ViPrimePLUS Bovine Herpesvirus 1 qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Bovine Herpesvirus 1 genome in tracheal swab, genital fluids and semen.
Bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1), a double-stranded DNA virus, is an important cattle pathogen that contributes to the major economic losses in the industry. It is one of the causing agents for the Bovine Respiratory Disease, a severe pneumonia disease. The infection also causes venereal diseases, encephalitis, conjunctivitis, abortion, and systemic infection in neonate calves. There are several virus subtypes, such as BHV-1.1 which is known as the respiratory form, BHV-1.2 as the genital form and BHV-1.3 as the encephalitic form. However, the distinction is not exclusive as there are cases of respiratory infection by BHV-1.2 and intrauterine infection by BHV-1.1. Latent infection is observed in the nervous system, where the viral reactivation promotes virus transmission and recurrent disease occurrence. Many commercially available vaccines using modified live-attenuated virus cause illnesses in young calves due to the immunosuppression property of the virus.
