Description
The ViPrimePLUS Trypanosoma cruzi qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Trypanosoma cruzi genomes in clinical samples (e.g. blood).
Trypanosoma cruzi is an insect-borne protozoan which infects humans and animals, causing Chagas' disease. It is transmitted to human via the faeces of the triatomine bugs (also known as kissing bug). Currently, there are about 10 million people being infected with the disease where most cases are reported in Latin America. Chagas disease is exhibited in two phases; 1) the acute phase where the parasite circulates in the body, and 2) the chronic phase where the parasite hides in the heart and digestive tissues, causing damage. Symptoms in the acute phase are mild, such as fever, enlarged lymph glands, swelling of an eye, difficulty in breathing and chest pain. However in chronic state, 30% of the cases will develop cardiovascular disease and 10% will lead to digestive tract complications. If early treatment is not provided, death may follow during to heart failure.
