Description
The ViPrimePLUS Trichomonas vaginalis qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Trichomonas vaginalis genomes in clinical samples (e.g. vaginal or urethral discharge and swabs).
Trichomonas vaginalis is a parasitic, flagellated protozoon that causes sexually transmitted trichomoniasis. The infection incident rate is fairly high with 170 million cases reported ever year. Trichomoniasis in females may cause prolonged postpartum fever, endometritis, premature rupture of membrane and cervical neoplasia. In infected pregnant ladies, complications such as premature birth, low birth weight and neonatal mortality often follows. The infection is mostly asymptomatic in men but some may develop nongonococcal urethritis, prostatitis, epididymitis and balanitis. T. vaginalis infection is often associated with the increase risk of HIV infection. Thus, early diagnosis and treatment is necessary to minimize the complications.
