Description
The ViPrimePLUS Gallid herpesvirus 2 qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Gallid herpesvirus 2 genome in blood, skin scabs and organ tissues.
Gallid herpesvirus 2 (GaHV-2) is a double-stranded DNA virus which causes Marek’s disease in chickens. This common malignant disease is highly contagious and spreads by bird to bird contact, contact with infected dust and dander and aerosol inhalation. It is accountable for a substantial growth defects and deaths in chickens, resulting in major economically losses in the poultry industry. There are 4 forms of Marek’s presentation; 1) Cutaneous, 2) Neural, 3) Ocular, 4) Visceral. The disease is characterized by the presence of T cell lymphoma in different forms, giving rise to limbs paralysis, immunosuppression, and lesions on feather follicles, breathing difficulty, gray irises or irregular pupil, blindness and tumor formation in the internal organs. The latent infection is responsible for the long term carrier status of the recovered birds.
