Description
The ViPrimePLUS Chicken Anemia Virus qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Chicken Anemia Virus genome in tissue and serum samples.
Chicken anemia virus (CAV) is a commonly found single-stranded DNA virus in many commercially produced chickens. It has a worldwide distribution and disinfection with normal chemicals and heat are difficult. The virus can be transmitted through transovarian route, resulting in severely diseased progeny, such as anemia, subcutaneous haemorrhage and decreased immunity towards secondary bacterial infections. The infection can also be spread via respiratory and faecal-oral routes. Severely affected chicks generally die within 2 to 4 weeks of age and survivors are often stunted. Affected older chicks may develop milder signs due to their age-related resistance with more mature immune system. Early co-infection with infectious bursal disease virus, Marek’s disease virus and avian reoviruses may lead to serious immunosuppression, prolonging their susceptibility period. No specific treatment for CAV is available but antibiotics are useful for treating the secondary infections. Live vaccines can be administered to the breeder stocks prior to egg production to prevent vertical transmission.
