The ViPrimePLUS Avian Adenovirus (Egg Drop Syndrome) qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Avian Adenovirus (Egg Drop Syndrome) genome in blood, vesicles and body fluid samples.
Avian adenovirus or better known as egg drop syndrome virus (EDSV) is categorized under class III adenovirus. Avian adenovirus infections, a ubiquitous viral disease in commercially farmed birds, which is characterized by a significant drop in egg production but the infected birds do not become ill. Mainly, the reduced egg yield refers to the reduced egg quality where thin shelled, soft shelled and shell-less eggs are produced. Infection may have been eradicated from primary chicken breeding stock, endemic cases still occur in some parts of the world due to the presence of virus on the exterior of the eggs that contaminates the trays and trolleys. Sporadic outbreaks occur via transmission from waterfowls, which serve as the reservoirs for the virus, either directly or through contaminated water. Therefore, a routine disease screening may help to reduce the spread of the infections in the flock thus minimizing the economic loss.
