A murine monoclonal antibody to an epitope on C5.

This monoclonal antibody was raised against purified human C. It is specific for an antigen expressed on the C5 but not on MAC Complex. This antibody inhibits the lysis of EA and will not bind to MAC bound to a membrane.

Quidel's C5 monoclonal antibody has been used in a variety of experimental techniques including EIA, Western Blot, and RIA

The specificity of the monoclonal antibody was established by ELISA and radioimmunoassay (RIA). Using RIA, this monoclonal antibody was shown to bind radiolabeled C5 protein. Specificity was confirmed by functional inhibition of C5. In this study, ~17 ng of the Anti-Human C5 monoclonal antibody gave 50% inhibition of the lysis of antibody-coated sheep erythrocytes (EA) in an assay designed to measure C5 hemolytic function. The assay used highly purified C5 protein, EA and normal human serum which was immunochemically depleted of C5. The antibody does not recognize TCC deposited on membranes.
